Emmetts Farewells Service Tech Jack Robbens

This month, Emmetts farewells one of our service technicians, Jack Robbens.

Jack, 22, is from Lowestoft, England, and joined the Horsham service department in October 2018 while on a 6 month working Visa. Prior to coming to Australia, Jack worked for John Deere dealership Ben Burgess & Co in Norwich, who have 6 depots across England. There, Jack completed his apprenticeship, earning John Deere Apprentice of the Year (UK & Ireland) in 2017.

After graduation, Jack toured the Mannheim factory in Germany which strengthened his enthusiasm for John Deere tractors.

He began following the Emmetts Facebook page in 2017 and saw a couple of posts we had put up about our staff. He thought it looked like a great place to work. Now a fully qualified technician, Jack wanted to experience something a bit different, and having always wanted to travel, sent us a message in the hope for some work. His resume was passed onto Human Resources and the ball began rolling. Jack organised his Visa and was soon on his way to a new adventure at Emmetts Horsham, Victoria.

Jack fit in with the team at Horsham immediately. He quickly made friends with fellow staff, and built excellent relationships with customers. When he first arrived, the service department was busy working on S700 harvester pre-deliveries. Coming from a busy John Deere dealership in England, Jack was able to jump straight in and was a massive help to the service team. After deliveries were completed, Jack began to focus more on large tractors and complete on-farm service work for customers. Both Emmetts staff and customers were impressed with Jack's knowledge and abilities.

When asked about the differences between working in the UK and Australia, the obvious answer was "the weather". Jack joked that he "picked an excellent time to travel to Australia", as we had quite a few typical 45+ degree summer days. He said that in terms of the farms, Australian farms are bigger and managed by less people than back home. Tractors are also set up a bit differently, usually on 2m spacings versus our 3m CTF spacings, as the roads are tighter.

Jack has really enjoyed getting involved in the Precision Ag range of products, installing equipment and assisting the Emmetts Precision Ag team with resolving issues.

Jack said he has enjoyed the relaxed environment at Emmetts and all the great friendships he has made. He has been on many outings with fellow staff, including clay shooting weekends all over regional Victoria, V8 Supercars in Adelaide, the Goroke Rodeo, and the Formula 1s in Melbourne.

To the Emmetts team, Jack says "Thank you for making me feel so welcome and a part of the team so quickly. It's been great to get to know all the staff and customers in the Horsham area."

Wimmera Regional Operations Manager Patrick Fox added, "From the day Jack arrived with Anton Elliott and was introduced to Matt Nitschke and his team in the workshop, it was clear that he was a great fit for our team and would enjoy his 6 month placement in Australia. His skills and enthusiasm for the industry quickly became evident. Jack has made some lifelong friends within our service team and with housemate Steve Wilson. We will all miss him and his sense of humour around the Horsham branch, and I’m sure that we’ll keep in touch!"

Emmetts would like to thank Jack for his efforts and companionship over the past 6 months. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours!
