John Deere in the Process of Acquiring a Share of Precision Planting LLC from Monsanto

The news in John Deere land today, from the USA is that John Deere’s purchase of a minority share of Precision Planting LLC owned by Monsanto is being contested by the U.S Antitrust Department.

As David Mclaughlin (2016) of Bloomberg writes: "Precision Planting, founded in 1993, was acquired by St. Louis-based Monsanto in 2012 for $210 million. The company’s components can be used to augment new seeding equipment or to retrofit older equipment for precision applications. They can be used to apply the right pressure to sow seeds in the best depth and spacing for maximum yields."

John Deere has always been committed to innovation and has been acquiring companies lately to further develop the portfolio of products in the area of technology and data.  Previous to this there was the acquisition of Monosem Inc. who make precision planters and Hagie Manufacturers who specialise in sprayers.

Watch this space, but the investment in technology and innovation by John Deere should only help to increase each farmers capacity to expand, innovate and profit within their own businesses.
