Service technician Lourens from Emmetts Swan Hill, and his wife Bree moved to both work at the Emmetts on Kangaroo Island.
Bree Botha-Odendaal said “We decided to move to Kangaroo Island, because Lourens was at work one day and saw a flyer that Emmetts needed mechanics on the island. He offered to do the rotation on the island.” Emmetts was running a rotation of mechanics from all the branches to make sure the Kangaroo Island customer always had access to mechanics for their machines, as it has been very difficult to find local mechanics.
As Lourens was going to be spending some time on the island Bree joined all the local Kangaroo Island social media pages for him. That way he could find out where to eat, where to stay and what to do on his time off. It was then that Bree saw the job posting Emmetts has up for a Service Advisor for the Kangaroo Island branch.
Bree said she “spoke to Lourens and decided we would come over and help out, and both work at Emmetts. Lourens as a resident service technician and I would work in service administration to schedule all the jobs. We both love nature and the ocean and felt it was time for a change and to help make the place better.”
Lourens and Bree are both so excited to have relocated, and to be living on Kangaroo Island.
Lourens is a fully qualified diesel mechanic and said “I knew the island was in need of more diesel mechanics and I wanted to help out. I would like to move into Management one day. We ran our own diesel mechanic business in Esperance WA for three years. We moved to Swan Hill Vic to be closer to my sister when she had her baby. It was in Swan Hill that I was able to build my experience in farm machinery when I started to work for Emmetts Swan Hill as a diesel mechanic.”
Prior to Emmetts, Bree was a Pathology nurse for 6 years, then worked in their diesel mechanic business for 3 years. Bree said “ while running our own business I was also a Busines Manager with Vita Group, managing a team for 10 doing all of the admin, staff training, and much more which has set me up well for being a great service advisor.”
Emmetts Regional Manager, Michael Ping said “the experience that Lourens brings with trucks, trailers, 4wd, forestry and farming is a great asset the Parndana branch. Having Bree in the office to organise the schedule and keep up communication with the customers on their job timing, costs and bookings will very beneficial and bring a great level of service to Emmetts customers. We are so lucky to have them both.”
Bree is now booking in all jobs, making sure there is clear communication and that all locals are at ease when wanting anything done.
