Variety V2 Motorcycle Run, 8th- 11th October 2016. Written by John Loyd.
Well, it was 1,600 km’s in four days, 21 bikes, and 2 classic cars that completed this year’s Variety V2 Run.
We started the event with a breakfast at Home Hardware on Main North east road Windsor Gardens.
Before we started, Variety had a presentation from Gold Medallist Brayden Davidson. Variety has supported Brayden, who has Cerebral Palsy in his quest to make this year’s Para Olympics held in Rio.
Brayden was ultimately successful, and secured a Gold Medal for his efforts.
The V2 then made its way to the Southern Flinders Ranges via Eudunda for morning tea, and Peterborough for lunch.
We spent two nights in Port Augusta with the second day also touring the Southern Flinders.
A highlight of this visit was the chance to have a ride on an old Steam Train, from Port Augusta to Woolshed Flat and back vis the Pichi Richi Pass.
Day three had the Group then make their way to the Historic Bungaree Station north of Clare for lunch. Unfortunately for us it started to rain, but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the group as we made our way to Moonta for night three.
Day Four which was our last day, had the V2 group head on down to Ardrossan and then on to Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley for our final lunch. On route we stopped in at Balaklava for morning tea.
At the end of the event, the V2 had raised $111,317.00 for Variety, a great success.
I was extremely surprised, and totally humbled to receive the prestigious “Ray Stevens” award for 2016. This award is given to a participant annually, who has conducted themselves well in the spirit of the event. Ray Stevens was a great supporter of both the V2 and Variety, he was instrumental in the organization of the V2, having being involved with it from the start. Unfortunately Ray passed away earlier this year.
In all it has been a great event, with much needed money being raised for Children with special needs.
I am proud to be involved with Variety, and would like to thank Emmett’s for coming on board and sponsoring me this year.
